Mary Todd Lincoln owned the fine set of diamond and black enamel jewelry that inspired this piece. The suite was featured in Frank Lesley’s Illustrated Newspaper, October 26, 1867. Mary sold them after the assassination of her husband, Abraham Lincoln. This exquisite set is in the Museum of Fine Art Boston's collection.
